What is TBT™?

Tucker BioKinetic Technique or TBT™, was developed by an equine veterinarian, Renee Tucker, DVM. Dr. Tucker, who is also certified in chiropractic and acupuncture, saw a need to develop an alternative approach to the existing modalities to solve horse problems that are considered unsolvable. The accredited Tucker BioKinetic University was created and has been delivering accredited training on the use and delivery of the Tucker BioKinetic Technique (TBT) for many years.

TBT  goes beyond traditional medicine and goes into bodywork on the energetic level. TBT targets the primary cause of any imbalance, restriction, or area of pain. It can solve a long list of problems including those that were thought to be training issues or otherwise only manageable.

TBT is a gentle approach that uses the horse's own energy to create structural and functional alignment. By using your horse's own energy to create the changes, it eliminates the issue of muscle memory. As TBT treats the primary underlying cause, some changes can be instantaneous.

What can TBT™ help?

TBT can help a wide range of performance and behaviour issues. These include but are not limited to the following:

  • Cranky attitude

  • Lack of interest in food

  • Rushing courses

  • Counter-cantering

  • Rearing

  • Cold-backed

  • Navicular

  • Arthritis

  • Suspensory injury

  • Chronic colic

  • Fly allergies

  • Phantom lameness

  • Back Soreness

  • Girthy/Cinchy

  • Stiffness

  • Mare Issues

  • Unwilling to Bend

  • Preferring One Direction

  • Bucking

  • Bolting

  • Biting and kicking

  • Short stepping

  • Tilting the head on one rein

How many sessions might my horse need?

The number of TBT bodywork sessions will depend on the behaviour or performance issue, how long the issue has been there and the severity in the case of an injury. You may see the results after the first session, or it may take several treatments.

Generally, the session takes between an hour to an hour and a half, the first session taking one and a half to two hours. With each session, using a gentle two-handed touch I will perform a:

  • Full bodycheck to tell me where your horse has restricted movement, what bones are moving or locked and any asymmetry

  • Primary cause analysis to find out the real underlying cause of why your horse is having some issues

  • Conduct a TBT alignment working from head to tail, to reset your horses’ internal mechanisms back to normal

What are the signs that the horse is experiencing the TBT session?

Depending on your horse and its nature, you may notice your horse yawning, stretching, licking & chewing, or snorting ( see video below). Your horse may start to close its eyes and drop his/her head down indicating that it is enjoying the experience. This is a visual indication that your horse’s body is moving into alignment and loving it. Alternatively, your horse may also internally process the changes over a couple of days and show no indication during the session.

Will I see the results straight away?

In my experience you will notice some small changes immediately after the session. In some instances, you might even see massive changes immediately as a few of my clients have experienced. Much of it will depend on how recent the misalignment took place and how chronic the imbalance is.

Ideally, rather than wait for a crisis, consider the benefits of regular maintenance. Like your own body that responds well to regular care, so will your horse respond well. Regular maintenance sessions of TBT bodywork on your horse, will provide early warning signs of a growing issue and help prevent or minimise injury, medications, injections and even surgeries.
